Dr. Joe Buchanan came to be our Senior Pastor in August of 2007. Before coming to First Baptist he served as Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church in Richmond, VA (2004-2007) and Open Door Baptist Church in Colliers, WV (1994-2004). Dr. Joe served as President of the Pastors Conference for the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists in 2003-2004 and on the Nominating Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. He is married to Grace and they have two children, Matthew and Sara. He earned the Master of Divinity degree from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Ministry degree at the same institution. Dr. Joe enjoys reading and spending time with his family. His personal mission statement comes from Colossians 1:28, "Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ." His vision for the ministry at First Baptist is to build a healthy church focused on being the representation of God's glory in the midst of a dark world.
Associate Pastor / Youth & Families
Cliff came to First Baptist Church from his home state of North Carolina in September of 2002. He is a graduate of Wingate University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Michele have been married since 1992 and have three beautiful daughters, Mackenzie, Caitlyn, and Reagan. Cliff answered God's call to ministry while in college and began serving as a Youth Pastor in 1991. Cliff is passionate about his relationship with God and is committed to helping parents raise students who will become mature Christian adults.
Associate Pastor / Music & Worship
John Windings is a long time Southern Illinois native with family roots in Pulaski County. He joined the ministry at the First Baptist Church of Metropolis in June of 2013. Before coming to First Baptist he served 16 years as Senior Pastor at Caledonia Community Church in Olmsted, Illinois. John has also been employed as Music Instructor at Shawnee Community College for the past 20 years. His education includes an Associate of Arts from Shawnee Community College, a Bachelor of Music Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and a Masters in Music Education at Southeast Missouri State. He is currently approaching the end of his Doctorate of Ministry program at Andersonville Theological Seminary in Camille, Georgia. John is married to his talented wife Jenny and they have three wonderful sons, Christopher, Caleb, and Connor. John considers his jobs as his hobbies but also enjoys Cardinal baseball and spending time with his family.
Children's Ministry Director
Clarissa is a life long resident of Metropolis, and currently resides here with her wonderful husband Adrian, and son Micah. She was blessed to officially become a part of the staff at First Baptist in January of 2016. Clarissa is a graduate of Shawnee Community College, with an Associate of Arts and Associate of Fine Arts in Music Performance. She is currently employed at Caledonia Christian Academy, in Olmsted, IL, as a High School Supervisor and Music Teacher. Drama and music have always been a passion of Clarissa's, and getting to share Jesus with kids through these outlets is one of the things she loves most.
